What should I do when my friend is dating a monster?
Summary
Seinfeld’s dilemma of truth versus compassion was compared to a Talmudic debate about how to complement an ugly bride. While both values are considered very important in the Jewish tradition , Beit Hilllel claimed that you cannot offend someone for the sake of sticking to the truth. An interesting rebuttal was made that this will lead to a phony polite society where you can never know what others are thinking of you (as illustrated in the Seinfeld ugly baby episode).
The discussion moved to terminally ill patient dilemma.about his body a Rabbinic ruling made the point that not telling the truth will create a panic in other patients who will be burdened with insecurity about their own fate.

Hillel would agree with Seinfield in this situation. Hillel argues that it is not worth offending someone to tell the truth. Seinfield agrees and decided not to offend Kramer in order to not hurt his feelings

Beit Shamai is like Kramer because he thinks that you should just be straight up with people.
Seinfeld is right because it is not his business who Kramer is dating. The only thing Seinfeld should worry about is being a good friend and supporting Kramer in whatever life decision he decides to make 🕎🕎🕎
Kramer is right because it may be hard to see that someone is bad or annoying if no one leads them to the conclusion. You sometimes need to be on the outside to see the problem, and can’t see it from the inside
Kramer is right because had Seinfeld warned him, he could have perhaps avoided the messiness and frustration associated with the breakup. He probably feels like his time was being wasted while those he cared about watched, without stepping in do advise him to switch paths.
